Recap of the day thus far in San Jose

Today was relaxed and a lot of fun. Given that we arrived late yesterday, we decided to forego the trip to the beach. It would have taken the entire day, and it would have taken away many chances to miss out on the culture of this place. Plus it would have forced us to spend hours on buses. We took advantage of the opportunity to gain a deeper appreciation for the city of San Jose.

We began the day with a trip to one of the big indoor markets. We found lots of good stuff, spending a good 90 minutes shopping. The unique nature of this place allows for friendly haggling and makes the experience even more fun.

Following the market, we went to the Jade Museum - a museum that, a few years ago, moved into a beautiful building beside the indoor market. We spent time in there climbing the five floors of history and culture that lie inside those walls.

Next stop - who knows what. Trini and I headed to the indoor market to get a very typical lunch. It was unbelievably good. The market has tons of fresh food - prepared and unprepared - for sale, unlike the first market. Of course, they also had plenty of souvenirs.

The kids spread around the downtown area, got their own lunches, and met up with us shortly after 4pm. There was lots of culture in the streets, and a few pictures will give some indication of what we saw.

At 4:30pm, we did something we haven't done before. We attended a concert. It was a saxophone group, and it looked like something fun to do. We even had refreshments served to us before the show. So classy! In a very cool maneuver, the group played two pieces in the theater lobby before "playing their way" upstairs to a magnificent room. We followed them up for the rest of the performance, and there weren't more than 100 people there. It was an excellent show. You can find out more information about the performance at this address: https://www.teatronacional.go.cr/Calendario/detalle/1268/sax-urbano.

After the concert, we headed back to the hotel, and that's where we are now. We'll go out to dinner in about five minutes.

Stay tuned for more updates when we can make them. We only have the ability to post when we're at the hotel, where there's wifi.
