It was incredible to see how far we have come in just two days. We've torn down the entire left side of the tree house and started working on the foundation. Looking back on what we've done so far, I can't help but smile knowing that we are really changing this community for the better.
Looking around Monteverde, I can truly see where the phrase "Pura vida!" comes from. Everything is beautiful beyond imagination, and every person is friendly, happy, and kind, including the host families, who are sweet beyond comparison. My short time in Costa Rica has been incredible, and I'm not going to waste what time I have left here. Pura Vida!
Mercersburg Academy is making its 8th trip to Costa Rica, a tradition that started in 2006 and has been biennial since 2009. Faculty and students volunteer their labor at the Cloud Forest School in Monteverde in the mountains for five days. There are also recreational/cultural visits to the capital of San Jose to start the trip and La Fortuna to finish off the trip. Trip leader Trini Hoffman is making her 7th appearance on this trip while Assistant leader Jeff Cohen is making his 6th.
Love the hat
